Huckabee my Vote
Tue, February 12, 2008 at 4:52PM Today Virginians vote in their presidential primary. My good friend and fellow pastor Josh Jacobs and I attended the Mike Huckabee rally in Roanoke. Huckabee is a former pastor who unapologetically supports conservative Christian social values. You can visit his site HERE to read more.
It was quite the experience. We arrived an hour early. By the time the rally kicked off with Duncan Hunter, former Republican presidential candidate. The hall was packed. Luckily, I got squished between a 6’3” giant in front of me and a short fat guy behind me who has campaigned for a fair tax since the Reagan administration. Since we had some wait time, he gave us a health lecture about supporting Huckabee because he promotes a fair tax, which would generate revenue for the federal government by a hefty tax on consumer goods. I tried explaining to the guy that I was at the rally to SUPPORT Huckabee, but he would be getting my vote for social, rather than tax reasons (I'm not sold on the fair tax, but don't tell this guy).
Then all of a suddenly I notice my new found friend was wearing a throwback Tundra sweater. You know, something Bill Cosby wore back in the mid-80’s. No wonder the guy was for a fair tax. He’d never be paying it, at least not for sweaters.
Back to Huckabee! Christians really need to think our election ethics through. I’m concerned we’re willing surrender our social values for a lesser-to-evils voting philosophy.
Are we willing to surrender views of the sanctity of human life (including those little embryonic stem cells only a few hours old) for the promise of conservative judicial appointees and a strong national defense?
This is exactly the choice we are forced into making. In all fairness, most of us know Huckabee is not going to gain the nomination and may pull out of the race tomorrow morning, but there are reasons to vote or refrain from voting based on our conservative values. God bless Dr. James Dobson for holding his consistent position on this issue. Even the Chicago Sun-Times paid respect. You can find that HERE.
By the way, I put a spin move on the big ogre just in time to shake hands with Gov. Huckabee. I’ve committed to not washing it until after the primary election. :)
