Hi my name is John Wilburn, and I am missionary with Baptist Mid Missions to Melbourne Australia. I graduated from Piedmont Baptist College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies. I also graduated with a Masters in Bible from the PBC Graduate Division.
I arrived here in Melbourne on January 8, 2007. My calling is to disciple Australian believers who will in turn lead the ministries that are headed by American missionaries. My specific ministry in Australia is one of discipleship. By this I mean true discipleship that involves rejection of the sin nature (Ephesians 4:22), and submission to the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:23), which will allow us to become like Christ (Ephesians 4:24).
I love to work with youth, and teach. God in his mercy has given me the opportunity to become actively involved in the youth groups at local Baptist churches. In the future I will also begin teaching at a Bible College in the area that trains nationals.
Currently my goal on the field of Australia is to develop small groups of youth who will meet at different times during the week to study Scripture. In the future I would like to see some of the youths become students at the Bible College. And then by God's Grace see them become involved in his will for their lives.
It is my desire to teach Theology in a way that is pure from a Doctrinal and academic standpoint. But to also teach it in a way that is practical to everyday life. By doing this I hope to refute the belief that Theology is only meant for those called to full time ministry.
